Tick Season is here!!
Make sure you check your pets daily and use tick prevention

Signs to look for:
Retching Coughing Vomiting
Change in voice Wobbly hind legs Lethargy
Trouble urinating (urine coming out in dribbles, while sleeping or not urinating at all!)
What to do if you find a tick:
Remove the tick as soon as possible and search for more - Do not put anything on the tick, just grab as close to the skin as possible and pull out. Don’t worry if the head is left in, the tick will die.
Contact vet surgery if showing any of the above signs - Tick Anti Serum is effective on toxin that is free flowing around the blood stream. Once the toxin is absorbed it becomes harder for the animal to respond to treatment.
Do not offer food or water - Muscles in the throat are also affected by paralysis. If food and water go down the trachea instead of the oesophagus the animal is at risk of aspiration pneumonia on top of tick paralysis.
Restrict movement - Keep your pet quiet and calm - ABSOLUTELY NO EXERCISE. The toxin also affects the heart and lungs.
Please note: if your animal is showing signs of tick paralysis and the surgery is closed we highly reccomend taking your pet to the NORTHSIDE EMERGENCY VET SERVICE. The sooner your pet starts the tick paralysis treatment, the better their chances of recovery
